The band are still not communicating much about their forthcoming debut album, but things should change quickly, with a release date announced for 23 February 2024. And we can also give you the name of the album, which is a good indication of the group’s underwater work: ‘Révolution Silencieuse’.
But you won’t have to wait that long to find out what’s on the album, as the first single and accompanying video will be released in the first half of January. At the helm is magician Gregory Wagenheim, who has already made a name for himself in the corridors of the 3rd Lab by producing the images for Ena Eno’s “Synchronicity”. But that’s a story for another day…

Just as when the sun and the moon meet to form an eclipse, the group Aube are in danger of creating a rare astronomical event!

Three years after their first song together, Aube have decided to reappear at the end of 2023 with a new opus. The latest addition to 3rd Lab, the group is made up of French singer Jeanne Barbieri and musician-producer Ena Eno.

The two artists each bring their own energy to the project through a folktronic musical field reminiscent of the world of La Chica.  The duo are putting the finishing touches to the opus, promising a unique blend of nostalgia and modernity.

Like a satellite revolving around a planet, the electronics orbit the voice. With a unity of sound and lyrics that is both bewitching and reflective of the paradoxes of today’s generation, the album promises to be a lunar experience.

Let’s dive in. The year is 2010, and we’re in the basement of a cold, dark laboratory in Strasbourg. In one corner, a scientist is slumped over his workstation, his mind racing. Distraught by the lack of recognition for unknown performers, the scientist felt the need to create an elixir to promote them.

He immediately set about exploring all the avenues that would enable him to create the perfect preparation. In the course of his research, he discovered musical distillation: extracting evocative tracks from albums to condense the best into compilations.

By fusing molecules of French rap with trip hop substances sprinkled with glitch hop, the researcher created the first 3rd Lab compilation. With the secret formula in his possession, he kept repeating the operation. The same year, the scientist created a second compilation of liquid and gaseous compounds. The recipe for the potion never ceased to evolve and to be the subject of new experiments. Artistically varied and mysteriously composed, a series of 8 other 3rd Lab compilations was born.

The more the hourglass ticks, the more the compilations become a symbol of the laboratory. Particles of funky hip hop and fragments of electronics are added to the recipe. The scientist’s solution is constantly expanding. He mixes abstract hiphop, footwork and samples in his flask. A pinch of trap here, a pinch of folktronica there, he picks out glitches and incorporates them into the mix, not hesitating to combine them with breakbeat samples.

The 3rd Lab compilations have become emblematic and are now part of the label’s DNA.  Each one as unique as the next, they perfectly reflect the artistic field of Strasbourg’s music laboratory.

La semaine passée, à Strasbourg, avait lieu le premier workshop de spatialisation sonore organisé aux Ateliers Éclairés. Le Programme Immersion et 3rd Lab avait invité Eric Raynaud (aka Fraction) à présenter XP4L, un outil de spatialisation développé pour Max4Live et axé performance/temps réel.
Les participants ont été séduits tant par l’ergonomie et la simplicité de la prise en main de XP4L que par la démarche et le militantisme de son créateur, consistant à remettre l’artiste au coeur de ses choix de travail sur l’espace plutôt qu’à déléguer à des opérateurs la partie spatialisation.
Les 3 jours de travail ont fait naître l’idée d’une collaboration entre les divers artistes présents pour la création d’un label de musique immersive (Binaural, multi-diffusion quand c’est possible).

Av Extended et l’agence Tetro présentaient la semaine passée “IRIS” à la Fête des Lumières de Lyon, une projection monumentale sur la façade de la cathédrale Saint Jean. On y retrouvait le noyau dur du collectif qui s’était déjà illustré sur d’autres mapping monumentaux (Lausanne, Strasbourg, Plzen, Avignon, Cannes, etc.) avec aux visuels, Jérémie Bellot et Josselin Fouché et à la création sonore Ena Eno accompagné de Stéphane Clor au violoncelle.

“IRIS” a remporté le Trophée des Lumières, récompense consacrant l’oeuvre plébiscitée par le public.

Devant l’affluence de demandes, la BO de l’oeuvre sera disponible en janvier sur 3rd Lab (3rdlab29)…

INK looks beyond rules and obstacles with its new EP : Climax, out on Tuesday, the 2nd of November 2021. Produced by Jazzin Translation (INK, Wrap it Up, Couronne d’Or Jazz Festival) with the label 3rd Lab (End Eno, Dooz Kawa, Na+ + Cl-,…), Climax is the preface of the French quartet’s new album expected in 2022.

Finding in jazz and improvisation a shared language, this exhilarating quartet lead by drummer and composer Victor Gachet flirts with electronic music in an ongoing dialogue with the beauty of silence. Jazz and electro, Hard-bop and Berlin Deep, Massive Attack and John Coltrane, Stanley Kubrick and Jorge Luis Borges, some many influences that feed Climax, taking the audience on an intense and hallucinatory journey.

Ena Eno présente son premier EP electro/techno “Moon Dream”. Initialement construit autour d’une projection monumentale du collectif AV Exciters dont il fait partie, le morceau a vu le jour publiquement à Plzn et à Avignon.

Pour sa version E.P., Ena Eno a revu sa copie et confié les remixs à Steven Wobblejay, activiste du label Dope Tone Records, ainsi qu’à Djane Ki, trublion du collectif et label La Bande Adhésive.

L’E.P. navigue entre techno downtempo, house et rythmiques tribales.

Ena Eno nous livre à travers ce maxi le premier extrait de son travail d’écriture musicale et sonore pour l’image. “Hortus” dont les sillons accompagnent cet été l’excellent travail vidéo d’AV Exciters sur la cathédrale de Strasbourg se présente sous forme de 4 parties d’une musique qu’on situerait volontier au carrefour de la musique downtempo et d’écritures plus longues propres au post-rock ou au rock progressif, le tout saupoudré de quelques polyrythmies évoquant les répétitions de Reich ou encore les emboîtements de Glass.
On y retrouve également le velour du violoncelle de Stephane Clor comme une réminiscence du travail abordé en duo entre les 2 artistes dans le groupe Na+ + Cl-.

Ena Eno présentait le 20 juin son premier LP solo après de nombreuses aventures en équipe (BEATume, Dooz Kawa, Na+ + Cl-,…) ; il y raconte ses tribulations au pays du soleil levant à travers des enregistrements à la volée dans les rues, des samples pris de vinyls diggués dans les échoppes de Tokyo ou de Kyoto, le tout entre abstract hip-hop, trip hop, half time et electronica.

Le rappeur Dah Conectah travaille actuellement sur un maxi qui verra le jour en 2019. Au programme, autour de 5 titres dans une ambiance Lo-Fi concoctée par des beatmakers tels que SůKɨA (Tour de Manège), Saligo (Little Mind Beats, Tour de Manège) et d’autres encore.
Ceux qui fréquentent les concerts de Dooz Kawa auront peut-être déjà eu un petit aperçu de l’opus à venir avec le titre “Témoin d’une époque” que Dah Conectah interprète régulièrement à ses côtés.

Dooz Kawa au Théâtre de l’Oeuvre Marseille accompagné de l’Académie de mandoline de Marseille, de Vincent Beer-Demander, de Remi Beer-Demander, de Dah Conectah, de Nano et de Dj Widsid pour une interprétation monumentale du titre “Les hommes et les armes” sublimée par les magnifiques images de Y-kwis, c’est à retrouver dans la rubrique vidéo ou sur la page artiste de Dooz Kawa (ou ici en direct).
Un petit méa culpa d’emblée, on a fait ce qu’on a pu pour la bande son, mais le seul endroit où nous avons pu mettre les micros ne permettait pas une récupération optimale du son, c’est le moins qu’on puisse dire… Ceci dit, plutôt que d’avorter le projet d’un reportage vidéo, nous avons préféré vous le faire voir (et écouter) en assumant les aléas de la prise son. Vous nous en excuserez, j’en suis sûr !

Voila un moment qu’on nous demandait s’il existait une version vinyl d’Etoiles du Sol. Ce sera bientôt le cas ! Les bandes partent au master et d’ici à 3 mois, nous aurons un beau double vinyl remasterisé pour l’occasion par l’excellent Benjamin Joubert.

Il sera disponible en pré-commande sur Cd1d et dès réception sur les stands en concert.

C’est à l’invitation de Vincent Beer-Demander que s’est dessiné le projet d’un concert avec son orchestre de mandolines. Comme il se plaît à le rappeler, la mandoline est un instrument très populaire et, par contingence géographique et culturelle, un instrument de la pègre. Il ne s’agit pas de faire des amalgames mais la réputation lointaine et sulfureuse de cet instrument méditerrannéen n’est pas sans rappeler l’image qui colle -parfois d’un peu trop près- au rap!

Néanmoins, c’est moins les aspects gangster que les aspects poétiques du genre musical et de l’instrument qui seront mis en avant pour ce concert atypique et exceptionnel!
Et le tout aura lieu les 27 et 28 novembre au théâtre de l’Oeuvre, en plein coeur de Belsunce, quartier populaire et poétique s’il en est… la boucle est bouclée!

Après une première collaboration sur une performance audiovisuelle nommée “Translation” dans le cadre du Blik Blik festival à Plzen (Rep. tchèque), Nan[o] et AV Exciters préparent un live set cinématique à l’occasion de la présentation de saison des Dominicains à Guebwiller le 2 juin à la tombée de la nuit.

On y retrouvera bien sûr quelques joyaux parus sur le label mis en image et en mouvement par les trublions vidéastes!
